A habit-change template built on identity, environment, and small honest votes

The Habit Ledger

Not a streak counter. A record of the next choice — the one you're making today.

This week's ledger

Tap a day to cycle it: a full vote, a small win, or a skip. A skip is data, not a verdict — it just tells you where the environment or the need still needs work.

Design the environment

Willpower runs out. Friction doesn't. List what makes the good choice easier to reach, and what makes the unwanted one slower to start.

Make it easy
    Make it inconvenient

      Diagnose the need

Every habit meets a real need. Name the habit you want to change, what it's actually giving you, and a replacement that meets the same need.

      For the difficult days

On the days you're depleted, the goal isn't the full habit — it's a version so small it's nearly impossible to skip.

      Monthly review

Once a month, look at the system itself — not just whether you kept it.

Where did the environment work against you this month?

Which lapses were about the habit, and which were about the need behind it?

What's the smallest next version of this habit worth trying?

      Long-term success rules

      1. Make the desired behavior easy.
      2. Make the unwanted behavior inconvenient.
      3. Focus on the next choice, not a perfect streak.
      4. Address the underlying need, not just the visible habit.
      5. Use small actions on difficult days.
      6. Expect lapses and prepare for them.
      7. Review your system every month.

The goal isn't to stop a bad habit — it's to build an environment, routine, and self-image that make the healthier choice increasingly natural.
